Hey Tumblr, so this picture is from a Facebook page. Following the killing of a British solider is Woolwich yesterday by Muslim extremists, this Facebook page has become well…a bit more active I think.

Obviously I disagree with it completely. It’s nothing but hate speech, putting the blame for what a few people did on an entire group of people. If any of you think that Islam is genuinely evil, let me clarify it for you. The Qur’an doesn’t preach the killing of innocents in the name of Allah. In fact, it’s very similar to other religions in that it preaches peace. It’s a few people who get deluded ideas that they are doing God’s will, Allah’s mission, whatever you call it.

I’m not saying religion is wrong. I’m saying that this kind of preaching is wrong…and what’s in this picture is just as wrong.

Hey guys, looks like we’ve found the Islamophobic area of Tumblr.

So to the gif poster, I’m really not bothered to scroll up to get your name, let me back up my points some. I doubt you have read any religious text, nor do I care what religion you are.

many of the verses in the Qur’an, and indeed any religious text, are violent by nature when taken out of context or twisted by someone towards a political agenda. While it is true that Islam has come to be seen as a violent religion, this is due to taking verses outside of their historical context. The problem is not with Muslims, but with Islamic extremists who will use religion as an excuse for their own agenda.

This is a passage from the Qur’an on the subject of murder, which was seen in Woolwich.

“..Take not life, which Allah hath made sacred, except by way of justice and law: thus does He command you, that ye may learn wisdom.” (al-An’am 6:151)

Therefore it’s clear the Qur’an does not promote murder except through justice or law.

No verse in the Qur’an allows for the free killing of people. In fact, those that speak of killing (and ones which have become quite familiar to those Islamophobes) were written in a time when the Muslim people were under attack constantly from non-Muslims in Makkah.

In fact, according to Surat Al-Ma’idah (5:32) “Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land - it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one - it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. And our messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs. Then indeed many of them, [even] after that, throughout the land, were transgressors.”

So targetting all members of a religious community for the few’s misinterpretation of their community’s sacred text is unjust and bordering on racism. Are you racist? I doubt you are, so maybe you should read up on things before you post “still fuck them” or a gif laughing at the idea of Islam being a religion of peace.

Note how I didn’t need to quote you and post a gif to make a point. If you can do the same, then perhaps this is a discussion worth continuing. If not, then it was nice to see your side to things, as prejudiced as they were.
